| Description | Sepia carbon print. Photographed by Percy J. Deakin, 96, Smallbrook Street, Birmingham. Lens focus 8 inches RR. Chalice cups belonging to church. A note on the back of the photograph states that the smaller cup was given to Barcheston church by King Henry VIII at the dissolution of the monastery, and was since renovated and re-spun so that its ancient character was to a great extent destroyed. The larger cup to the right of the photograph with the lid was the gift of Queen Elizabeth to the monks at Barcheston for hospitality received during a journey to Warwick. This cup had not been restored or altered in any way and the hallmark may be seen just above the band. Both cups are made of silver. |
