| Description | Bromide print. Photographed by H.W. Goulding, 65, Linwood Avenue, Handsworth. A note on the back of the photograph reads: 'These photographs show the original Gasometer constructed in, or about, the year 1799, it was used continuously to supply the Great Soho Foundry with Gas for lighting purposes, until the Gas could be purchased at a cheaper rate from outside producers. The Gasometer was then, and is now, used for supplying Dowson Gas to the various Gas-engines in the works. It will be seen from the above that the Gasometer has been at work for 102 years, it is still in good condition'. Duplicate of Handsworth Photographic Survey sequence MS 2724/4/145B. |
