| Description | Bromide print. Photographed by Thomas Clarke, Ascot Road, Moseley, Birmingham. Trial ploughing with the Ivel Agricultural Motor. A note on the back of the photograph reads: 'On account of the Motor Act (coming into force Jan 1. 1904) the local police would not permit the motor to travel the short distance by road from the Railway Station to the field as the motor was not registered and had not the registered number upon it - a horse had to be obtained to pull it. See "B'ham Dispatch" of Jan 23 [1904]'. An article from the 'Evesham Journal and Four Shires Advertiser' of Saturday 30 January 1904 gives further information reporting on the trial by the Warwickshire Farmers' Association, which was founded in the parish of Alcester. |
