| Description | The photographs of the core pre-Second World War WPS (c1890 - 1942) can be found in sub collection MS 2724/2, and catalogued to item level. Most of this was material has been identified by the unique running number (apparently given by the Reference Library and referred to in two index books) displayed at the top left hand corner of the print's cream coloured mounting board. This number forms the basis of its new catalogue number (i.e. MS 2724/B/1, MS 2724/C/10 etc), with a finding number, which is the WK number newly allocated to the prints after the whole of the pre and post-Second World War series was broken up, reboxed and reindexed during the second half of the twentieth century.
On the back of each print is a label bearing the name of the WPS either pasted or printed onto the back of the board, with standardised information giving title, subject matter, name and address of photographer, date / time the photograph was taken, print process used and any other remarks. From the early indexes it is possible to discern several Series of prints, Series 'A', 'B', Series 'BB', 'C', 'CC' and 'D', as listed below. |
