DescriptionThe following pictures were obtained from negatives found in an old house in Aston and show the family of a Mrs Grace Curtis, the Bellamys of Perry Barr, who owned E.C. Bellamy and Company of Pritchard Street, Newtown Row, makers of the untippable Kelly Lamps as well as many lines in machine tools.
They were originally mistakenly attributed in an article in 'The Way we Were' series in Birmingham Mail, 24 April 1984, to the Brittain family of Aston Lane, and was corrected in a subsequent edition.
The photographs include domestic and family scenes as well as images of the Bellamy works and its employees. The box contains 34 prints plus to cuttings from the respective newspapers relating to the recovered photographic negatives and their provenance.
