| Description | These various papers relate to James Watt’s patent and the defence of it during Boulton & Watt’s various legal actions. They were found scattered through the collection, but were most likely originally kept together with the other legal material. They include the draft lists of patents drawin up for the appendix to "The Arguments of the Judges in Two Causes relating to the Letters Patent granted to James Watt, Engineer, for his Method of lessening the consumption of steam and fuel in fire engines", which Boulton & Watt had printed in 1799 following the successful outcome of their action against Jabez Hornblower and Stephen Maberly (MS 3147/2/50). For other lists of patents consulted by Boulton & Watt, see "Lists and Papers relating to Patents" (MS 3147/2/25). |
