TitleSAMUEL HURT; ABRAHAM STOREY; SIMON VIVIAN
LevelItem
Date1800—1811
DescriptionLetters from three senior employees at Soho Foundry: Samuel Hurt, Head Clerk; Abraham Storey, head of the foundry department; and Simon Vivian, a smith and fitter. Almost all the letters are addressed to James Watt Jr. and Matthew Robinson Boulton.
These letters were removed from other bundles of correspondence from the employees at Soho Foundry; the first letter from Hurt certainly shows evidence of having been on top of a bundle. At some point they became mixed in the 1820s/1830s Drawing Office correspondence which formed the bulk of "Box 5" in the old numbering scheme.
The letters are divided as follows:
Nos. 1-27. Samuel Hurt
No. 28. Abraham Storey
Nos. 29-34. Simon Vivian
