Charles Brandling of Gosforth House, Northumberland, was a colliery proprietor. In 1793 he bought an engine for Middleton Colliery, Rothwell, Yorkshire, and in 1794 he purchased one for Gateshead Park Colliery. He was an executor to William Ord, one of the proprietors of Walker Colliery, near Newcastle, so he became involved with that mine which purchased its first engine in 1795. His agents were Richard Humble and his son Jos. in Yorkshire and Thomas Barnes in the Newcastle area, and these agents wrote on his behalf. However the letters are docketed as Charles Brandling.

Brooke & Pease. John Brooke of Ansthorpe and Robert Copeland Pease of Hull, proprietors of an oil mill. Brooke was John Smeaton’s son-in-law.
