Docketed “Secretary to the New Bengal Steam Fund. Received 8 Nov. Enclosing correspondence with the Governor General. Propose that the steam packets shall proceed from Calcutta instead of Bombay. Estimate of running two steamers of 160 horses power between Calcutta and Suez. The Governor General approves of the plan. The Forbes hired to make an epxerimental voyage from Calcutta to Madras, Bombay and Suez. Calcutta may be supplied with coal from Burdwan and still better from Cherra Parngee. The Forbes calculated to reach Suez in 30 days.”
