| Description | Letters from the Dutch engineer John Daniel Huichelbos van Liender, from 1775 to 1794. Van Liender’s correspondence was kept in three large bundles, this being the first. The bundle wrapper is marked as covering the years 1775 to 1795, but no letters from 1795 have been found. Van Liender addressed many of his letters in the following manner: “James Watt, at Birmingham, care of Mrs. Matthews, London”. The London part of the direction is usually crossed out. These letters were received by Charlotte Matthews at 6 Green Lettice Lane in London and sent on to Birmingham. |
