DescriptionLetters and papers about pumping engines for White Grit Mine and Shelvefield Gravels, from 1783 to 1785. White Grit mine was a lead mine in Shropshire. The proprietors included Joshua Blakeway of Lythwood Hall near Shrewsbury, Thomas Lloyd Anwyl and John Lawrence, who was also the engineer. In 1784 Blakeway and Lawrence ordered another engine for their mine at Shelvefield Gravels, which they often referred to simply as “Gravels.” The White Grit mine engine was stopped in 1785 and sold the following year.
