| Description | This volume was definitely referred to as the "Letter Book" – see the draft of a reply to Messrs. Diggins’ letter of 26 Dec. 1786 in the General Correspondence 1785—1795. The gap in the correspondence in this volume is due to Matthew Boulton and James Watt’s absence in France; two letters by Ann Watt dated 1 and 6 Nov. 1786 explaining their absence appear in this volume.
The following letters have been removed and are missing: Folio 98. According to index there should be a letter to Berhsam about "BG & AM gudgeons" Folio 124. A letter to John Rennie, circa Oct. 1786 Folio 140. The folio is marked "Noted that there were no letters in this page 1/8/19. H.W." According to the index a letter to S. Liptrap dated Nov. 1786 should be here. |
