1077. Kent Water Works, Deptford (E & YY). Feb., Mar., Jun.-Aug. 1810, Jun. 1825, Nov., Dec. 1834, Nov. 1835, Jul., Aug. 1843. 31 items.
Two crank engines with 36 inch cylinders, 8 foot strokes, parallel motions, cast iron beams, cast iron connecting rods. Cylinders increased to 38 inches 1843.

Reverse plan of the engine house and boilers, longitudinal section of the engine house and pumps, cross-sections of the engine house at the cylinder and pump ends, plan near the bottom of the engine house, cross-section of the boilers, longitudinal section of boiler, side view of the pump cistern and wall upon it; inner and outer end parallel motions - coloured original drawing; rough copy sketch of beams for the upper floor (the original drawing was made for South London Water Works in May 1808 and re-used for Kent in Jun. 1810); sketches of bolt holes for pump cistern, cast iron plate for outer end plummer block, air machine (based on air machine made for Chelsea Water Works Oct. 1803, also used for Colchester Water Works 1810) - rough sketches sent to the Foundry. All the drawings except the last 3 items bear letter codes.
Also sheet of notes on the power of the engines, pumps etc. by James Watt Jr.; sheet of notes and calculations by John Southern; partially coloured plan of the site showing old water works at Ravensbourne Mill etc.; longitudinal and transverse sections of the ground; sketch plan of the mains pipes by John Rennie, Feb. 1810; 2 pen and wash drawings of the engine house, one showing the house with one chimney and the other showing the house with 2 chimneys.
Also the following later items: pump and air vessel - partially coloured reverse drawings, Jun. 1825; new working barrel, air pump bucket and rod (with piston rod for Birley & Co. on the same sheet) - rough sketches sent to the Foundry, Nov. & Dec. 1834; main plummer block - press copy sketch, Nov. 1835.
The following items are from the repairs and alterations of 1843: copy of the contract and conditions of payment, circa Aug. 1843 (made according to the instructions of Thomas Wicksteed, Consulting Engineer to the company); set of numbered tracings - 1 - elevation of engine, 2 - plan of the engines and pump work and boilers, 3 - details of boilers and fittings, [4 - wanting], 5 - details of the cylinder etc. (2 sheets), 6 - details of steam pipes and nozzles, 7 - details of air vessels and cocks etc. (drawn by E. G. Terry, 10 Jul. 1843), 8 - details of flooring plates and girders and cranks.

For the Kent Water Works Co. Pumping engines, Mill Lane, Deptford, London. The first engine, E, was made and erected in 1810. The second, YY, was built in 1812 but not sold to the Kent Water Works Co. until 1825. The company's office was at 52 Threadneedle Street, London.
