Initially a vertical engine with a 66 inch cylinder and 9 foot stroke was proposed for this site. A 50 horse boat engine was erected alongside this engine in 1848 [see Portfolio 5/1084]. In 1850-1851 a 66 inch inverted engine was moved to this site from Broken Wharf [see Portfolio 5/1092].
