Two 60 horse power side lever boat engines, with 42 inch cylinders, 4 foot strokes. Power increased to 70 horses 1834.

Side view and plan of the engines and boiler, marked "Leith Steam Schooner - a scheme" and "d__d" ["damned"]; partially coloured side view of engine marked "Scheme Leith No. 3"; plan of the engine sleepers, midship section (marked on the back "See another section - wrong", Oct. 1822; section at the after bulkhead [Oct, 1822?]; section at foremost bulkhead - marked "Copy of drawing sent by Mr. Brown, Nov. 1822"; midship section - partially shaded reverse drawing, Jan. 1823.
Gangway framing, plan for the engine room deck beams - reverse drawings sent to Soho; upper headstock frame - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings; section and plan of the boiler - partially coloured original marked "See Drawing in Engine Book for the dimensions as made", coloured original, partially coloured direct copy and coloured reverse copy (these drawings were made in Oct. 1822 but used in Jun. 1823); longitudinal section of the boiler and chimney - coloured original, coloured direct copy and coloured reverse copy; plan of the engines and boiler, side view of an engine and section of the boiler - coloured reverse drawings; paddle wheels - partially shaded original and reverse drawings; view of openings into boiler flues and longitudinal section of the boiler - coloured drawing. Several of these drawings bear letter codes.
Sketches for engine YI - cross-bar and rods etc., end of cross-bar and notes re steam cases and slide valve cases (press copy), cross-bar, brackets [?] (press copy); sketch of shaft and paddle (with press copy); sketch of injection pipes; partially shaded sketch elevation and plan of diagonals to stiffen the aft main beam etc.; memorandum - "Dimensions of Leith Steam Vessel No. 3 of 27 ft. beam" (includes details of accommodation etc.); memorandum - "Calculated Weight of Two 60 horse Engines for Leith No. 3, 4 Oct. 1822" ( a list of duplicates to be sent has been added later).
Also the following later items: sketch and note re new crosses for headstocks, Mar. 1824 (2 small sheets stuck together; one of the sheets also carries a note re new perpendicular links for engine ZP, Thomas & William King); longitudinal section of boiler - 2 reverse drawings made in the London office, Nov. 1829; section and plan of the boiler, sections of the boiler - partially coloured original and partially coloured reverse drawings, Nov. 1833; working gear for 70 horse belted cylinders, Oct. 1834; original portfolio cover, with note about the paddle wheels by Hollins Hunt dated Dec. 1834 stuck inside. Several of these drawings bear letter codes.

For the London & Edinburgh Steam Packet Co. The boat was initially referred to as "Leith Packet No. 3". Engine YI was actually made in 1817, but not used until 1822-1823 when it was paired with engine VG for the Soho. The boat is referred to in T. Tredgold, The Steam Engine, p. 317.
