| Description | Steam Boat Engines (8 items). 1126. Dover Packet No. 1, Dasher (WG & WH). Jul., Aug. 1821, Jan., Feb. 1825. 8 items. Two 20 horse power side lever boat engines, with 26¾ inch cylinders, 2½ foot strokes. Midship section and plan of the engine room and boiler; 13 foot paddle wheels - coloured original and reverse drawings; longitudinal section of the engine room and boiler and plan of the engine room and boiler - coloured reverse drawing; sketch of paddle wheel, notes re paddle wheels, engine room beams etc. (3 small sheets stuck together); slide valve rod and eccentric [unclear if this was actually for the Dasher]. All the drawings except the first and the last two items bear letter codes. Also the following later items - sketches for new boiler - coloured drawings made in the London office, Jan. 1825, marked "none of these were adopted"; section and plan of new boiler, Feb. 1825 - partially coloured reverse drawing made in Jan. 1828 (this drawing bears a letter code). Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 767. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 312. For H. M. Post Office, Dover station. Dasher was built by Patterson of Rotherhithe. She was moved to the Port Patrick station in 1825, where she was wrecked on 19 Dec. 1830. She was replaced at Port Patrick by the Fury.
