Two 30 horse power side lever boat engines, with 31½ inch cylinders, 3 foot strokes. Boat re-named Fearless 1837.

For H. M. Post Office, Weymouth station. Flamer was built by Fletcher & Fearnall of Limehouse as a replacement for the Meteor which was wrecked in Feb. 1830 [see Portfolio 5/1144]. The boat was re-named Fearless in 1837 when the Navy took over the Post Office packet fleet. Note that Boulton Watt & Co. provided the engines for a Navy boat also called the Flamer [see Portfolio 5/1225], which was usually referred to as the "Navy Flamer" to distinguish the two.
