1144. Holyhead Packet Meteor (XX & XY). Aug.-Oct., Dec. 1820, Jun., Dec. 1821, Jan. 1822, Jan. 1825. 15 items.
Two 30 horse power side lever boat engines, with 31½ inch cylinders, 3 foot strokes.
Sections and side view of the boat, Aug. 1820, marked "Copied from Mr. W. Evans' drawings"; sections and side view of the boat, Sep. 1820, marked "signed W. Evans" (these 2 drawings are similar to the "draft" drawings in the Steam Boat Box).

The drawings of the boiler "schemes" bear letter codes.

For H. M. Post Office, Holyhead station. The boat was referred to as "Post Office No. 2" before being named Meteor. She worked between Holyhead and Howth. She later moved to the Milford station, and then to the Weymouth station. She was wrecked at Portland on 23 Feb. 1830. She was replaced by the Flamer [see Portfolio 5/1136].
Note that Boulton Watt & Co. provided the engines for a Navy boat also called Meteor. The Navy boat was usually referred to as the "Navy Meteor" to distinguish the two.
