Two 40 horse power side lever boat engines, with 35½ inch cylinders, 3½ foot strokes. Power later increased to 50 horses.

Also the following later items: sections and plan of boiler for 2 50 horse engines - partially coloured original and reverse drawings made in the London office, Oct. 1833; coal boxes - reverse drawing made in the London office, Feb. 1836; emptying pipes of boiler, sections and plan of boiler for 2 50 horse engines, upper headstock frame for 2 50 horse engines, sketch of cranks etc. - partially coloured original and partially coloured reverse drawings, Dec. 1838 & Jan. 1839; sections and plan of the boat and engines and boiler etc. showing 50 horse power engines - reverse drawing made in the London office, Jan. 1839, marked "This plan was not carried into effect, the original 2 40s being replaced in the vessel"; coal boxes - reverse drawing, Jan. 1839; tracings of the injection pipes and proposed blow out pipes (not dated, circa 1839?). All of these drawings except the 2 tracings bear letter codes.

For H. M. Navy. Alban's drawings were kept in the same book as those for the Carron [see Portfolio 5/1223]. In Mar. 1832 Alban was being used for Channel and harbour services. In late 1838 it was intended to fit the Alban with 50 horse engines removed from the Carron, but this plan was never carried out. Alban's engines were however later increased to 50 horse power. She was broken up in 1860.
