Two 50 horse power side lever boat engines, with 39½ inch cylinders, 3½ foot strokes.
Midship section of the boat and engines, longitudinal section of the engine room, plan of the engine sleepers, plan of the engine deck beams - reverse drawings made in the London office and marked "Navy 4 & 5"; plan and section of boiler - partially coloured reverse drawing made in the London office (drawing also used for boilers for Pluto and Alban); paddle wheel and shaft. Only the last item bears a letter code.

For H. M. Navy. Carron's drawings were kept in the same book as those for the Alban [see Portfolio 5/1222]. In Mar. 1832 Carron was being used for Channel and harbour services, and on packet services to the Mediterranean. In late 1838 it was proposed to fit the Carron with the engines from the navy tug Meteor [see Portfolio 5/1221] and increase them to 60 horse power, but this plan does not appear to have been carried out. Carron was broken up in 1877. |
