Aug., Oct. 1813, May, Jun., Oct. 1815, Mar., May 1816. 20 items. 20 horse power independent crank engine, with 25½ inch cylinder, 3 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod, A frames. Section and half-plan of the boat marked "brought by Mr. Brown"; sections and plan of the engine room area; section of boat and plan and side view of engine marked "design for Tyne boat by J. Brown" (this shows a bell crank engine); cross-section of the boat and boilers and outline plan of the engine and boilers - partially coloured drawing; section of the engine and plan of the engine, boilers and paddle wheel - coloured direct drawing; air pump, hot water cistern etc. - partially shaded drawing; fire place - reverse drawing (with drawing of fire place for the Zayre on the same sheet [Portfolio 5/1228]); plans and sections of the boat showing accommodation, timbers etc. The air pump and fire place drawings bear letter codes. This engine was very similar to a standard 20 horse land crank engine, and was virtually identical to the engine fitted in the Navy boat Congo [see Portfolio 5/1228]; the drawings for both engines were kept in the same book. The engine is listed under "Tyne" in the Drawing Office Index. Note that Boulton Watt & Co. later built 20 horse side lever engines for a steam barge also named Eagle [see Portfolio 5/1263].
