Two 10 horse power side lever boat engines, with 20 inch cylinders, 2 foot strokes.

Cross-section of the boat at the aft bulkhead and plan of the engine room - partially coloured reverse drawing; upper headstock frame - reverse drawing; feed pipes - 2 partially coloured original and 1 partially coloured reverse drawing; cross-section of the boat and engines and plan of the engines and boiler etc. - coloured reverse drawing. All these drawings bear letter codes.
Also the following rough drawings, press copies etc: small sketch plan of the boiler; arch (press copy); safety valves - original and press copy drawings; section and plan of the engine room, both marked "Sketch for Sons of Commerce"; handle, waste pipe etc. (press copy); feed pipes (press copy); plan of the boiler from dimensions taken at the top of flues.

For the Sons of Commerce Steam Boat Co. Boulton Watt & Co.'s engines replaced the boat's original engines - Sons of Commerce had made trials against the Caledonia and the Favourite in 1817 and 1818. The engines were later fitted in a boat called the Fly.
