Two 20 horse power side lever boat engines, with 26¾ inch cylinders, 2½ foot strokes. Power increased to 25 horses circa 1831.

Cross-section of the boat and engines, longitudinal section of the engine room and boiler, plan of the engine deck beams, plan of the engine sleepers, side view of gangway wale and paddle case - reverse drawings made in the London office; section and plan of the boiler - partially coloured reverse drawing made in the London office; paddle wheels and shafts - original and reverse drawings. The paddle wheel drawings bear letter codes.

For the Gravesend Steam Boat Co. Hawk ran between London, Gravesend and Sheerness. She was fitted with new 30¼ inch cylinders and 30 horse slide valves circa 1831, which increased the power of her engines to about 25 horses. Her old cylinders were used in the engines of the Southend steamer Rose [see Portfolio 5/1264].
