Single-acting engine, with 23 inch cylinder, 2 foot stroke, direct connection. Engine formerly belonged to the Birmingham Canal Co. Framing - reverse drawing; general section and plan of the engine and boiler and pump, front view of the engine; 2 reverse [?] drawings of the pump; sketch of the pump sent to the Foundry. All the drawings except those of the pump bear letter codes. Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 213. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 134, 138. For the Grand Junction Canal Co. Pumping engine mounted in a boat, and referred to as a "boat engine". The Grand Junction Canal Co. bought this engine from the Birmingham Canal Co. in 1796, and the new drawings were placed in the book with those originally made for the Birmingham Co.
