DescriptionGeneral Boat Engine Drawings (153 items)

Portfolio 1280 mostly contains various sets of drawings of different types of boat engine. These are general drawings, not assigned to any particular vessel, and were probably made when the particular type of engine was in the planning stage. The majority of the drawings were made in the London office and sent to Soho. The portfolio also contains various rough sketches, including some by William Creighton from the 1810s; these are some of the earliest of Boulton Watt & Co.'s boat engine designs. There are also a few drawings of individual boats.

The majority of the material in this portfolio was assembled by Henry Hazleton in the 1890s, and it is not clear exactly where or how it was originally kept. Some of the later items, from the firm's years as James Watt & Co., may have been added by the Tangye Bros. or the Library
