This was the second engine erected at Polgooth; the first was a 63 inch engine bought from Wheal Chance in 1783. According to the List of Engines made at Soho, this engine was stopped in Apr. 1787, but was used occasionally after that. It was still at the mine in May 1798. According to Dickinson & Jenkins [p. 342] the engine was also referred to as the "Coxshead engine". |
