For Consolidated Mines. Wheal Virgin was part of Consolidated Mines, which was formed in 1782, when this engine was set to work. According to the List of Engines made at Soho, the engine was stopped in Sep. 1797. However it was listed as being at work in May 1798. According to Dickinson & Jenkins [p. 340], Edward Bull altered the construction of this engine by adding the 50 inch cylinder from the Wheal Maid Western engine, but by 1796 it had been restored to its original construction.
