Single-acting engine, with 63 inch cylinder, 9 foot stroke, chain connection. Engine formerly belonged to Wheal Chance.

For Polgooth Mine. The engine originally belonged to Wheal Chance, where it worked from Apr. 1780 to Jun. 1783. Polgooth bought most of the engine materials, but new timbers for the beam were supplied, and the engine may also have had a new cylinder fitted, as the first section of the List of Engines made at Soho records a 63 inch cylinder for Polgooth in 1783, while letters from the shipping agent Thomas Beckett mention a piston rod for Polgooth being shipped in late 1783. According to the List of Engines made at Soho, the engine worked at Polgooth from Mar. 1784 to Oct. 1796, when "a 66 [inch engine] intended by Bull for Poldice [was] erected in its place." Henry Hazleton listed this engine twice in the Catalogue of Old Engines.
