Elevation and plan of cylinders, pumps, cistern etc. of a Hornblower engine [?] - coloured drawing and reverse copy. "Hornblower Engine at Willey": "Plan and Sections of Condenser for the Hornblower Engine at Willey" - not dated, marked "The holes and thickness to be as directed for Wilson House Engine." Engines built by Jonathan Hornblower for Radstock Colliery, Somerset, and Tincroft Mine, Cornwall. Hornblower had begun experimenting with compound engines independently of James Watt in the late 1770s, and he took out a patent in 1781. The Radstock engine was erected around this time. It had cylinders of 19 and 24 inches diameter and strokes of six and eight feet. The Tincroft engine was erected in 1791.
