In 1792 Boulton & Watt made models of a typical example of their engine and Edward Bull's engine for use in their legal action. Matthew Boulton wrote from London to Watt requesting models of Watt's, Bull's and Newcomen's engines on 13 Oct. 1792 [Correspondence and Papers, 3/16/4]. Drawings were prepared for making these models, and John Southern placed the drawings in Book 191. At some point various other drawings of models were added, such as that of the model of the working beam and those of the model of the barrel.
