For Charles Clowes and company. Phoenix Brewery, Stoney Lane, Southwark, London. In 1785 Charles Clowes and John Dawson enquired about an engine to power their brewery, which they were re-building after a fire. However this first enquiry appears not to have been followed up. By 1794 the firm had become Clowes Newberry & Madox, and they ordered this engine in 1796.
