Description10 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 17½ inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, parallel motion.

Reverse general view of the engine and boiler, reverse plans and sections of the engine and boiler; reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and framing, with cistern drawings on the same sheet. All the drawings bear letter codes.

Also "Plan of Mr. Thornely's Engine and Boiler House" - coloured drawing sent by W. Harrison, Jul. 1820.

For John Orrell. Cotton mill, Stalybridge. In 1819 one Thomas Orrell purchased a 36 horse crank engine, which appears to have been for the same mill [see Portfolio 5/466]. This engine was sold to John Thornely of Hadfield in 1820.
