Description24 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 25ΒΌ inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion. Power increased to 30 horses 1803-4. Also fire extinguishing apparatus, 1803-1804.

Coloured original and reverse general view of the engine (the reverse copy has the pump beam for the extinguishing apparatus pencilled in), coloured original and reverse plans and sections of the engine and boilers; original coloured section of the engine house and framing dated Oct. 1797, reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and framing dated Nov. 1797; cistern - reverse drawings; parallel motion - original coloured drawing; working gear - original coloured drawing; top of connecting rod - original coloured drawing; boiler steam pipes. All the drawings except the last item bear letter codes.

The following drawings of extinguishing apparatus: section and plan of mill and engine house, with pipes and reservoirs roughly pencilled in; plan and section of mill and engine house showing pump, suction and air vessels, pipes etc., and side view of engine showing pump beam marked "Recd. back from Mr. Lawson with his of 2 Sep. 1803"; reverse copies of these drawings coded IDJ, dated Feb. 1804.

For John Pooley. Cotton mill, Manchester. The power was increased by the addition of the cylinder from the Salford Twist Co. No. 2 engine, and the engine was adapted to work fire extinguishing apparatus by means of a pump beam worked from the main engine beam.
