Description20 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 24 inch cylinder, 5 foot stroke, parallel motion.

Parallel motion - reverse drawing. This drawing was used as a standard drawing for parallel motions for 14, 16, 18 and 20 horse engines; it includes drawings of all the component parts and various sets of dimensions. It was originally drawn in Oct. 1796, coded CYR and is described by the Drawings Day Book as "Parallel Motion 18, 20 horse for Foundry." The original was sent to the Foundry. It was then used as the basis for the parallel motion drawings for the following engines, each drawing being given a new code: ERF G. Wilkie 20 horse; ESO Leeming & Jackson 20 horse; ETD R. P. Glass & Co. 16 horse; HHZ Butterworth 20 horse; HOW 2nd drawing for Butterworth; HHD Mr. Mitton; HQE Campbell Spiers & Co.

Also cross-section and side view of the engine dated 9 Mar. 1809. All the drawings except those of the mill bear letter codes.

For George Wilkie. Flax spinning mill, Dundee, Forfar. According to the Catalogue of Old Engines, the engine was in the possession of a James Gibson in 1804, and was sold to a Mr. Brown in 1809, having been repaired with an iron beam.
