Description10 horse power single-acting sun & planet engine, with 24 inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion. Re-erected Dec. 1789.

Includes reverse general view of the engine, plans and sections of the engine showing connections to the brewery and large horizontal wheel; parallel motion - coloured original and reverse; working gear - coloured original front and side view, marked "This drawing (the property of Boulton & Watt) to be kept clean & after the engine is finished to be returned" (dated 19 Oct. 1787 - the first example of this?), reverse front and side view marked "MB a copy of this drawing made the 9 Dec. 1789", coloured reverse plans; rotative wheel and shaft; sketch ground plans of the engine showing walls of engine house, passageway etc. - by the millwright John Cooper?
3 drawings date from 9 Dec. 1789. These are reverse copies of the parallel motion, plan and general view of the engine. All were taken from the 1787 drawings, and all bear letter codes.

For John Calvert of Whitecross St., London and company. Brewery, Whitecross St., London. One of the undated ground plans gives the firm as John Calvert & Co. "or Calvert's & Wall." The firm signed themselves as Calvert Morrell & Cole. The engine was damaged by fire circa Aug. 1789, but re-erected in Dec.
