For John Christian Curwen (formerly John Christian). Colliery pumping and winding [?] engine, Lady Pit, Chapel Bank. Workington. The engine was connected to the pump by means of a pump beam, which was worked by the main beam. Curwen's third engine, a 17 horse power sun & planet engine [see Portfolio 5/78] was also erected on the Lady Pit. Hazleton listed this engine among the pumping engines rather than the crank engines. |
