Description14 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 20 inch cylinder, 5 foot stroke, parallel motion.

Includes reverse general view of the engine, plans and section of the engine showing connection to the mill, details of engine and boiler houses, foundation work; boiler - coloured original plans and sections marked "Returned Apr. 1788" and notes about the Royal Plate Glass Co.'s boiler added in pencil, and reverse copies; working gear - coloured original plans marked "Returned Apr. 1788", reverse coloured plans and front and side views; support and pillar for triple plummer block - coloured original and coloured reverse copy; bevel wheels, drum spindles, fly wheel.

For Richard Gorton of Thomas Gorton & Son, Mansfield. Cotton mill and small wares manufactory (i.e. garters, tapes etc.), Cuckney, Nottinghamshire. By Apr. 1791 the firm had become Gorton & Thompson. The engine was sold to Cardrew Mine, Cornwall in 1793 and a new set of drawings made, which was kept separately.
