271. A. G. & H. Salvin, Durham (S). Nov. 1799, Jul. 1800. 5 items. 6 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 14¾ inch cylinder, 3 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron connecting rod.

For Anthony, George and Henry Salvin of Castle Eden. Cotton mill, Durham. This was the fourth engine that Salvins ordered following three sun and planet engines: a 30 horse of 1791 which they sold in 1792 to Markland Cookson & Fawcett [see Portfolio 5/91]; a 16 horse engine of 1793 [see Portfolio 5/80]; and a 30 horse engine in 1796 [see Portfolio 5/128]. According to the Catalogue of Old Engines, this engine was countermanded but re-ordered on 14 May 1800.
