278. The Honourable the Commissioners of the Navy, Portsmouth (N). Mar.-Jun. 1800, Dec. 1801, Feb., Mar. 1837. 27 items. 30 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 28? inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron connecting rod. Engine altered 1837. Also chain pump.

For the Honourable the Commissioners of the Navy. Portsmouth Dockyard - the engine appears to have powered a chain pump and metal-working and other dockyard machinery. Frequently referred to as "The Navy engine", this was Boulton Watt & Co.'s first engine for a naval facility. The engine and engine house were altered in 1837. |
