Description4 horse power single-acting sun & planet engine, with 15 inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, chain connection, safety valve.

Includes coloured original and reverse section of the engine and front view of the engine and millwork (the reverse drawing is marked "not followed"); reverse plans and sections of the engine; framing; method of communicating motion to the mill including one scheme that was not adopted; boiler, steam pipes and fly wheel. Also "Full size drawings of the new working gear for the 15 inch forge engine, Nov. 1783" which was later marked "Messrs. Goodwyn's & Co."; drawing of a bar motion which may never have been applied to the engine; 1 reverse and 4 coloured plans and sections of the premises showing large horizontal wheel and mill work.

For Henry Goodwyn & Co. Brewery, St. Botolph, Aldgate, East Smithfield, London. Often spelt "Goodwin". This engine was the first Boulton & Watt rotative engine in London, but was destroyed by a fire in Nov. 1788 and replaced with the 8 horse engine below. The concern later became Goodwyn & Co.
