20 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 23¾ inch cylinder, 5 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, [cast iron connecting rod].

Reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and framing; small reverse sketch plan and elevation of the engine; feed apparatus and damper float - reverse drawings; rough sketch plan of the engine house. All the drawings except the last item bear letter codes.

For The Radford Cotton Co. Cotton mill, Radford. According to the Catalogue of Old Engines, this was the second engine for the concern. The first was a 12 horse power sun and planet engine ordered in 1791, when the firm was called Smith & Co. [see Portfolio 5/66]. By 1804 the concern had become William Smith & Co.
