Henry Coates & Co., Hull (C). 1800, Nov., Dec. 1802, Jan., May 1803. 15 items. 20 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 23¾ inch cylinder, 5 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod. 24 horse cylinder, slide valves, iron spring beams and new parallel motion added 1820.

For Henry Coates and John Jarratt. Oil mill, Sculcoates, Kingston-upon-Hull. Often spelt "Cotes" and "Jarrat", and often referred to as "Coates & Jarratt". This was the second engine that the firm bought, the first being a 7 horse power sun and planet engine in 1783-1784 [see Portfolio 5/1].
