329. The Fazeley St. Co., Birmingham (Z). Mar.-May, Jul., Sep. 1803. 20 items. 50 horse power double-acting crank engine with 36 inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.
Coloured original and reverse general view of the engine, plan of the engine and boilers; reverse plan and sections of the engine house, boilers and framing, drawings of the cistern; fly wheel - reverse drawing marked "old fly wheel"; plan of air pump and condenser marked "50 H 6 foot stroke"; beam - reverse drawing; parallel motion - coloured original and reverse drawing; working gear - coloured original and reverse front and side views; reverse plan and sections of boiler grate; 2 sheets of rough sketches including plan of the millwork, sketches of the framing etc. All the drawings except the rough sketches bear letter codes.

For the Fazeley St. Co., also called the New Steam Mill Co., Fazeley St., Birmingham. The engine used for grinding gun barrels etc., and was often referred to simply as "The Fazeley St. engine." Note that the Engine Order Book No. 5 describes this as a 50 horse engine with a 6 foot stroke and the Drawing Office Index notes it as a 50 horse, but the List of Engines made at Soho describes it as a 56 horse engine with a 6 foot stroke, and the Catalogue of Old Engines lists it as 56 horses with a 5 foot stroke. |
