For Daintry Ryle & Co. Cotton mills, Macclesfield. The firm's full name was Daintry Ryle & Daintry. Early in 1805 they became T. S. Daintry & Co., then Wood Daintry & Wood. The Catalogue of Old Engines calls them "Daintry Wood & Daintry".
The various apparatus and pipes were ordered in Feb. 1805. The bleaching and dyeing works was about 1 mile away from the main mill, and Boulton Watt & Co. provided a boiler, apparatus, pipes and casings for heating kiers and other dyeing vessels. The printing works was powered by steam from the three boilers of the 40 horse power crank engine erected in 1802-1803 [see Portfolio 5/312]. Boulton Watt & Co. provided pipes and steam boxes for drying the cloth once it had passed through the printing machines. The stove for drying warps and the sizing boilers were powered by steam from the firm's first engine, the 32 horse power sun and planet engine erected in 1801 [see Portfolio 5/221].
While the above apparatus was on order, in Mar. 1805 Daintry Ryle & Co. bought the 14 horse power engine which had been made for the Proprietors of the Commercial Archway in London.
