40 horse power crank engine, with 31½ inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.

Reverse plan and sections of the engine house and large round boiler (the longitudinal section shows the main beam working a smaller pump beam to work the cold water pump; coloured plan and section of part of the engine house, showing fly wheel and alternative crank arrangement and framing, marked "with their letter 21 Jul. 1808"; cross-section of the intended engine house and section of the boiler marked "with their letter 31 Jul. 1808". The reverse drawings bear letter codes.

Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 593. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 116.

For William Taitt & Co. Engine Order Book No. 7 describes this engine as being for William Taitt & Co., Cardiff, and all the drawings are marked "W. Taitt & Co." However the List of Engines made at Soho says that it was for William Wood & Co. of Cardiff, while the Catalogue of Old Engines says it was erected for Taitt to power a rolling mill at the Dowlais Iron Works.
