20 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 23¾ inch cylinder, 5 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, [cast iron connecting rod].

Reverse general section of engine house and boiler with governor crudely pencilled in, plan of the engine house and boiler with eccentric working gear pencilled in; sketch plan and section of the engine house and brewery by James Lawson showing brewing copper, mash tun, floors etc. The reverse drawings bear letter codes.

For Henry Meux & Co. Brewery, St. Giles, London. This brewery was originally owned by John Stephenson, who installed an 8 horse power sun and planet engine in 1789 [see Portfolio 5/43]. Henry Meux & Co. took over the brewery in 1809, and bought a 14 horse independent engine in 1820 [see Portfolio 5/976].
