Includes coloured original and reverse general view of the engine showing a 14 inch cylinder altered to a 16 inch, coloured original and reverse plans and sections of the engine, boiler, engine house and framing, with alternative boiler designs pasted on, reverse ground plans and sections of the engine house giving alternative designs [?]; coloured original and reverse drawings of framing; boiler - coloured original and reverse plans and sections; parallel motion - coloured original and reverse copy; working gear - coloured original and reverse plans and front and side views marked "See Ecton"; cistern - coloured original and reverse drawings of outside, also section and plan showing condenser and air pump within the cistern; sketch of mill and notes on shafts, floors etc. All the engine drawings bear letter codes.

For Peter Drinkwater. Cotton mill, Manchester, later referred to as the Piccadilly Factory. This was the first Boulton & Watt rotative engine in Manchester. In 1799 Drinkwater replaced this engine with a 14 horse engine [see Portfolio 5/45 below], and sold it to Francis Reynolds & Co. of Manchester.
