446. Williams Jones & Co., Birmingham (ZZ). Feb. 1813, Jul. 1814, Jan. 1815, Jan. 1836. 10 items. 32 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 29 inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod. Also gas lighting and steam heating apparatus, 1814 & 1815.
Reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses and boilers (the longitudinal section shows the location of the counting house, marked "removed"); sketch plan and elevation of the engine house with engine and boiler pencilled in; external elevation and ¾ view drawing of the front of the works marked "An ale manufactory now a nale manufactory". The reverse drawings bear letter codes. Also sheet of drawings of various components marked "Repairs for 32 horse engine at the Britannia Nail Works in Birmingham", dated Soho, 27 Jan. 1836. Also the following items re gas lighting and heating apparatus: 2 sheets of plans and sections of the works showing gasometers, retorts, locations of burners etc. dated 23 Jul. 1814; plan and section of engine house and part of works showing boilers and pipes for steam heating, dated Jan. 1815.

For Williams Jones & Co. Britannia Nail Works, Birmingham. The firm was also known as the Britannia Nail Co., and the Engine Order Book, Drawing Office Index and the Drawings Day Book refers to it also as J. C. Dyer & Co. The building was built as a brewery in the 18th century, but was converted to nail making in the early 19th century.
