For J. W. Pilcher & Co. Corn mill, Dover. Correspondence in the Business Letter Book Dec. 1813-Feb. 1815 makes it clear that this was an alteration of an existing engine, but the maker of the original engine is not stated. The original engine had a cylinder of 30 inches diameter and a 6 foot stroke, but was underpowered. Boulton Watt & Co. supplied various parts of the dimensions of a 30 horse power engine, including a cylinder and piston rod, slide valves and two boilers. These parts were coded "S." The engine's original beam, connecting rod, cranks, shafts and pumps were re-used.
