465. McConnel & Kennedy, Manchester (YX). Jul., Sep. 1815, Mar. 1819. 16 items. 53 horse power crank engine, with 36 inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.
Reverse plan and sections of the engine house, plan and sections of the 3 boilers and steam pipes; front of lower nozzle, pedestal for cylinder, lower nozzle and working gear, crank shaft and governor, hot water pump - original and reverse drawings; side and front view of cylinder etc. showing eccentric working gear; sketch of rods, catches etc. for working gear [?]; coloured plan and sections of the engine house and boilers sent to Boulton Watt & Co. All the drawings except the last 4 items bear letter codes.

For McConnel & Kennedy. Cotton mill, Manchester. Engine Order Book No. 9 says that this was the fourth engine for McConnel & Kennedy, the previous three being as follows: 16 horse power sun and planet engine, 1797 [Portfolio 5/151]; 45 horse power crank engine, 1801-1802 [Portfolio 5/303a]; and a "very peculiar" engine with a 28 inch cylinder, 5 foot stroke [Portfolio 5/303b].
